Wireless home theater systems
First of all, there is no such thing as a 100% wireless home
theater system. The "wireless home theater systems"
featured on this site are actually one of two types of surround
sound systems that are both mostly hard-wired, but require less worry
about running and hiding speaker wire than typical home theater systems.
The four brands of home theater
system listed at the top left column of every page under
Wireless Home Theater all feature 5 or 6 speakers and a
subwoofer.
While your three front speakers and subwoofer
are hard-wired into the system, the rear surround sound
speakers don't require that you run long speaker wires from the
back of your surround sound amplifier to the rear speakers.
Instead, rear speakers are powered by a separate wireless
transmitter and receiver system that uses radio frequency (RF),
infrared (IR), or Bluetooth technology for wireless
transmission. The wireless receiver will still need to be
plugged into an AC outlet (perhaps right behind your home theater seating) and your rear speakers will need to
be wired with speaker wire directly into the wireless receiver. |

Virtual surround sound systems, on the other hand, lack
separate rear surround speakers all together. These
are listed at the bottom left column of every page under Virtual
Surround Sound. By sending more than one channel of
digital surround sound into a
speaker cabinet, and/or directing and reflecting time-delayed digital
rear surround effects off of the side and back walls your home
theater room, a virtual surround sound system lets you
experience much of the same surround sound excitement as 6
